The war between England and Zanzibar in 1896, the shortest war in history, lasted only 38 minutes.

After a coup ticked off the British, they invaded Zanzibar at 9am on August 27th, 1896 and fired just 500 shells, 4,100 machine gun rounds and 1,000 rifle rounds during the engagement. The Sultan's forces sustained roughly 500 casualties, while only one British sailor was injured. The Sultan's supporters were punished by being forced to pay reparations to cover the cost of shells fired against them.
